Eva Lawler, the member for Drysdale, was appointed as the Northern Territory Labor Government’s Minister for Education in September 2016. Eva was born in Darwin and completed a Bachelor of Education at the then Darwin Community College before beginning her career as an educator. She has since gained a Masters in Education, a Masters in International Management, a Diploma in Project Management and an Associate Diploma in Public Service Management.
Eva started her career in education as a preschool teacher at Berry Springs Primary School in the 1980's. Eva has worked in a number of schools in the Darwin and rural area as a teacher, Assistant Principal, and a Principal. She has worked in curriculum development and as a Health Educator within the Education Department promoting health and wellbeing in schools. Eva has also taken on executive roles in Education in Alice Springs and as Deputy Chief Executive School Education for the whole of the Territory.
Eva is married to Tom Lawler, a long-term Territory firefighter and has two adult children, daughter Kirby and son Lindsay.
Eva has a lifelong commitment to education in the Territory, and as the Minister for Education she is dedicated to ensuring all young people have access to a quality education by having strong schools, with exceptional leaders and quality teachers that work in close partnership with their families and their community.
