Paul Kirby

Paul and his family moved to Darwin in 1997 and settled in the Northern suburbs. Paul has two children, Alana and Jake, who attended local schools and were involved in team sports and running a number child oriented community programmes.

Paul began working as a linesman with Power and Water in 1997. He was elected as a workplace representative by his colleagues, where he worked collaboratively with management to ensure that those people who couldn’t speak up for themselves, had a strong and united voice.

In 2013, Paul left Power and Water to work for the Electrical Trades Union, where he listens to, and represents, the interests of his members right across the Territory. This has meant that Paul has been able to see firsthand the damaging effects to Territorians of the recent dramatic rate increases. He has detailed knowledge of the workings of Power and Water and understands the potential for further hurt for Territory families if Power and Water were to be privatised.

Paul has proven experience in listening and consulting with Territorians and working with all levels of government for the best possible outcome for those he represents.

Paul is passionate about helping young people when they first enter the workforce, addressing gender inequalities in the NT and ensuring there is adequate support in place for Fly In Fly Out (FIFO) workers and their families.

Paul has been involved in coaching Territory sports teams and programs, including cricket and AFL, across a broad range of age groups.
