CLP NEEDS TO SHOW TERRITORIANS THE MONEY
Territory Labor is calling on Chief Minister Lia Finocchiaro to be upfront with Territorians about how she intends to pay for her $280 million in election promises.
The NT Department of Treasury and Finance’s assessment of the CLP’s election commitments, released on 21 August 2024, shows $224 million in operating commitments and $56 million in revenue measures – apparently to be offset by $185 million in cuts and $42 million in scrapped capital works projects.
When pressed by the Leader of the Opposition Selena Uibo in Question Time on Thursday, the Chief Minister refused to tell Territorians what she intended to cut to pay for her $280 million promises bill.
The CLP’s glossy prisons plan released today also fails to provide any costings or any answers on how it will be funded.
The CLP has also failed to explain how they will pay the additional costs associated with establishing six new Government departments, which will significantly increase public sector executive wage costs.
Lia Finocchairo told Territorians that the CLP would be responsible fiscal managers but has so far dodged any questions about how they intend to pay for their pre-election promises to Territorians.
Quotes attributed to Opposition Leader Selena Uibo:
“Lia Finocchairo has talked a big game around being transparent and accountable, but her silence has been deafening when it comes to answering questions about how the CLP intends to pay for their spending spree.
“It’s time the CLP come clean with Territorians about what they are going to cut, who they are going to sack or how much they intend to hike up power prices to pay for their promises.”
Quotes attributed to Member for Gwoja Chansey Paech:
“Lia Finocchairo claims the CLP are a transparent government, however actions speak louder than words.
“In two short months we have seen unbudgeted election commitments, hidden cost saving measures and now a corrections infrastructure scheme with no dollar figure attached.
“Who and what are the CLP going to cut, sack and sell to afford this?”
