I bring a breadth of real life, community involvement and professional experience to the role. I live in Darwin with my wife and four children. My family and I are regulars at the Rapid Creek and Nightcliff markets and spend many an evening at the Marrara Oval participating in community sports.
I passionately believe in the value of organised sport to young people in our community. I am committed to my family and pride myself on my dedication to social justice. I believe in a Territory where every member of our community is safe and respected, and valued for the role they play in society.
I grew up in Alice Springs, and spent two years in Ernabella, a small community near the S.A. and N.T. border. After high school in Alice Springs I played AFL for Richmond Football Club, like my father Michael Bowden. I debuted for the Tigers in 1996 and was elected President of the AFL’s Player’s Association in 2006 and served for four years until my retirement in 2009. Alongside my AFL career, I hold a Bachelor of Education, a Master of Business Administration and am currently studying Laws at Charles Darwin University.
I am the current General Secretary at Unions NT and have previously worked with the Northern Territory Department of Tourism and Culture, AFLNT, as well as running my own hospitality and property development business in Victoria.
I am a family man at heart, and excited about the opportunity to advocate in Parliament for the people of Johnston.
