Chansey Paech

A strong desire to see Central Australians have the same opportunities in life and work as other Australians led Chansey Paech to consider a future in politics.

Chansey grew up in Alice Springs and spent his childhood visiting family and friends out bush. His best memories so far are of camping out with family and friends down the Finke track, going to sporting carnivals and races at Santa Teresa and Harts Range and lining up to get the best preserves at the Old Timers fete.

He understands the importance of local community – they are his family, friends, colleagues and neighbours. Chansey is proud of his Indigenous heritage and Eastern Arrernte and Gurindji links.

Chansey was elected to the Alice Springs Town Council in 2012 and spent three years ensuring the strong role of the community in the business of local government. As a Councillor he was a strong advocate for young people and local business whilst making sure that grassroots voices had an impact on Council decisions.

He brings the same values and principles to his role as the Member for Namatjira in the Northern Territory Parliament. Chansey is committed to listening to all Central Australians whether they live in a small outstation or the rural area of Alice Springs. He is focused on making sure their views and voices are heard and that people have a genuine say in the decisions that affect their lives.

Chansey has been an active member of Territory Labor since his teens, because he believes the NT ALP can build for the future by investing in new industries, new jobs, delivering safe, secure, affordable housing and that working with regional and remote Territorians is central to the NT’s economic and social prosperity.

Outside of work and family life, Chansey plays soccer and is a passionate Richmond Tigers supporter. He enjoys the arts, and in his spare time enjoys gardening, reading, horse riding and getting out bush and soaking up the spectacular Central Australian landscapes.
